Review: A Matter of Circumstance & Celludrones by Claire Robyns

A Matter of Circumstance and Celludrones (Dark Matters)Title: A Matter of Circumstance & Celludrones
Author: Claire Robyns
Series: Dark Matters #1
Got from: Author- ARC
Format:  Ebook
Publication: Claire Robyns September 24, 2012
Average Rating: 4.0

Synopsis:
Lady Lily d'Bulier is prim, proper, and prefers to think of herself as pragmatic rather than timid. And avoiding life-threatening situations at all costs was just plain practical. But everything changes when Lord Adair tracks her down in London; searching for answers he seems to think she has.

Greyston Adair is a blackguard and a smuggler, although British Customs would have to catch him red-handed to prove the latter. Fortunately, the dirigibles they float around in have never been able to get near his air dust.

Hell is rising, One Demon at a Time...

With Lady Ostrich hunting them, and the mystery of how their lives tie back to Cragloden Castle and the powerful McAllister clan, Lily has no option but to throw propriety to the wind and run off with Greyston to Scotland, away from the immediate danger and toward possible answers.

My Review:
My Rating: 5 out 5 stars
This book left me wanting more, wanting more of Lily and Grey, more of Kendall, and also Neco and Ana. I started out reading this and at first it had me a little confused, because I didn't quite exactly know what was going on with Lily, and her visions, but it did start out like you'd see in something like Jane Austen's- Pride and Prejudice. Where the height of society is at a ball, and all the elegible women, are seeking their future husbands, and some have already found them. Well Lily she basically is an 'uptight' lady, who is the most extreme at being proper. She's a no frills kind of girl.  Then she meets Lord Adair (Greyston), and she was turned off from him from the very beginning because he had eyes for her friend Evelyn, who was already married to a Duke. Evelyn is the live life to the fullest, need for the thrill, and very flirtatious woman.  She loves her husband to death, but is a definite thrill seeker.

Next day or a few days after the ball, Lord Adair calls upon Lily. She doesn't have any clue onto why, until she brings in Ana, and Celludrone (basically a clockwork person, an android for the early era). Lord Adair asks Lily all sorts of questions about her mother, and what she knew about her death, but Lily doesn't really know much.  Then he does something drastic and Ana comes to Lily's aid, protects her. Lily is furious and tries to through him, out but doesn't succeed because as she's trying to throw him out, and unexpected guests walks in, she is known by "Lady Ostrich"who later on in the book they find out is a demon. Lady Ostrich then gets into a fight with both Ana and Neco who by the way is a Celludrone himself.  They both get defeated, and Lady Ostrich ends up killing Lily. Horrible right? right.

Next thing Lily knows is that she's back with Lord Adair, and he basically kidnaps her. This is where the adventure starts. Lily goes along with Greyston, on this epic journey to find out why they are being chased after by Lady Ostrich, and why their pasts are connected, and why their pasts lead them to one place. The place where her mother was killed "Cragloden Castle".

I loved this book, because one I love a good adventure book, two I love the paranormal aspects, Demons! gotta love Demons, and three because there is passion between Lily and Grey, and that passion is quite intense. It basically fits with today's women and how they think men look at them. The whole i'm not enough this, I'm too much of this and he won't or doesn't like etc. etc. etc. And...AND.... it leaves you hanging wanting more. I recommend this book, especially if you love a series that continues the story from each book to the other, you love steampunk style books.... oh and don't forget the Demons hehe. Plus if a book is so interesting that it keeps you up most of the night because you can't seem to put it down, then you know it's a good book.

My Review:
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I finally read this book, I've heard so many great things about it, and well since I love Nalini Singh, I was like yeah I'll read it. I'm glad I did because it was extremely good, I love the details she puts into the angels wings, it's sad that, that's what I think of the most, is their wings lol. No, really the entirety of the book was good, there wasn't a dull moment in it. I agree with the other ladies who have commented about Raphael.... "Ahhh Raphael" total yummy in the body of an angel. Makes me wonder where my Raphael is, lol. There was a graphic or a picture or a quite I saw a while ago that said, that ever woman should have one night with a nab from a book. I whole heartedly agree with this statement and wish it could happen. But since it can't or it's rare I do enjoy them while I read of them in my precious books. Thank you Nalini for your continuous giving of the wonderful men in your books. Oh how delicious they are. :)

Born in Flames Blog Tour & Giveaway

About the author:

Candace Knoebel dreamed of being a dancer ever since she could remember. With a love of all things art, she saw herself moving to New York and pursuing her passion as an artist. But all that changed on October 10th 2002 when she met the love of her life. Her dreams diverged and after marrying her high school sweetheart and having two beautiful children, she realized she missed her creative side.

Growing up alongside the Harry Potter series, Candace found herself missing the epicosity of a story that pulls you in and won’t let you go. In 2009, she began dreaming up characters that would mold her first novel. Through lunch breaks and late nights, after putting her kids to bed, she built a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. She found her calling in life and knew this was more than dancing could’ve ever meant to her.

Once complete in 2010, she began the grueling process of finding a publisher. With relentless determination, she was finally able to realize her dream in December of 2011 when 48fourteen offered her a publishing contract. With a HUGE yes and a happy dance, she now continues her Trilogy.

Book trailer:

Excerpt:

The call of the orb was strong now that it rested in my hands. A song thrummed in my chest as I felt the veins in my neck beating wildly. Looking at it now, the change wasn’t as scary as I had thought it would be. Even with knowing that I could be staring my possible death in the face. The question was—would I be strong enough to sustain these powers given to me? Maybe I was just scared of The Fates choosing my destiny, or maybe I was scared that what was about to happen would forever change my life. Either way, growing up I had always hoped that my life would mean something more than just being a foster child, but this, this was much bigger than anyone could imagine. And what lies ahead? Well if it’s anything compared to what I am going through now, then I expect my life to fall into a whole new level of crazy. And I think it may be just what I was looking for.

Synopsis:

Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.

Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. Having no memories of the time before she awoke on her foster mother’s doorstep, she yearns for the emptiness inside her to be filled. With her fellow orphaned best friend, Fenn, by her side, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But something powerful stirred within her that she couldn’t explain. Something wanted out.

In the dark of night, a crazed Seer, dubbed Mr.Creepy, erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?

My Review:

5 of 5 Stars
Ok I just loved this book; it started out with a quiet scene that turned into a chaotic one, which instantly got my attention.  Then POOF you’re in another world some odd years later.  Then is goes on about two teenagers who are living in a run-down motel room, and both working in a diner just to survive.  Aurora & Finn, had shown up at the foster home they lived at, at the same exact time, and both of them had no recollection of their past before then.  They became best friends, but both of them eventually turned into loving each other like “in love” loving each.  But Aurora has something weird about her, she doesn’t quite know what it is, and she thinks she just might be crazy. Until one day a stranger walks into their lives, and tells them about a prophecy, and she’s the key to it.  Of course they didn’t believe her and Fenn wanted nothing but to get her away from this unkown man. But one day something that the old man had said, had happened, and shook both Rory and Fenn up enough to start believing what the old man had said.  Come to find out Rory has powers. From then on it’s a search to find the keys to get her home.  Fenn, has to leave her to protect her, and leaves her alone lost and confused.  Then she meets Lexi, a quirky girl from the other realm, who is there to help and protect Rory, she’s cute. So now Rory and Lexi go on the adventure to find these keys, meanwhile constantly fighting and escaping the grasp of Kordon’s grasp, on Rory.  This book was filled with adventure, action, and some romance, and definitely some humor.  It left things with a smile, but you know that more is to come.  And as for me, I cannot wait for the next book, I’m highly intrigued to see how things pan out.

Opal Cover Revealed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Opal (Lux, #3)

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Cicely Waters, a witch who can control the wind, has returned home to New Forest, Washington, after learning that her family is in danger. The Indigo Court holds the city in fear. My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am very partial to books about Faeries, Vampires, Shifters, witches etc etc. This one had them all over the place. Cicely a magic born witch, had been a drifter since her childhood, due to her bloodwhore junkie mother. A call home brings Cicely back to New Forest, back to her home, her family, and her lover Grieve. But when she gets there she doesn't know that magic born folk are disappearing all over the place, but then soon learns that the Queen of the Indigo Court Myst, the first Vampiric Fae, has made her home in New Forest, and has transformed most of the Fae living in the forest into her legion of Vampiric Fae, including Grieve. Cicely and her cousin Rhianna, and Rhianna's boyfriend Lee, and a Dreamwalker called Kaylin. Gather together to form a small band of magic users on the side of good, to help stop Myst taking over New Forest. Along with the sly backhanded help of the Vampires, and the Fae Queen of the Rushes and Rivers, she gets into deeper waters than she ever intended. SO while, trying to rescue her friends and family, and her lover, helping out the vampires and the rest of the fae not transformed, Cicely also has to learn about her own background. Man, if you ever think you got it rough, imagine what its like for Cicely. This book was intriguing, and a new world to explore. It reminded me of a modern day version of the 80's movie "Legend" except without Darkness and just add more Faeries into the mix. This is a series I will continue to read, and from how this book ended I will continue to enjoy. I hope if you read this book you will enjoy it too. :)

this book was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!

The moment I picked up this book and read a few pages I was hooked, I had stayed up all night reading this and had spent a part of today finishing it up. It was totally a boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, girl falls for boy, girl finds power, boy goes fights enemy, and girl loses boy story. Mareck, was interested in Sophie the moment he met her, Sophie became interested in the first moment she had thought she met him. They dated for a but, then one night they witnessed someone being attacked and kill, the killer being a vampire. Marek was a demivampire not fully a vampire. Vampire's in this story are created in a different way than I have ever read. They have to lose their soul to become a vampire, until then they are only demivampire. I loved the use of Egyptian history in this. And the details of the scenery and the character detail was awesome, I felt I was right there watching everything play out in front of me. I also love the uniqueness is some of the names. Basically the only other thing I can say about this book though is, When is the next one Coming out.

P.S. I loved this book soooooo much it has been placed on my favorites list and I will recommend this book to everyone I know. :)

A definite must read.

Thank you Ash Krafton for this wonderful new series. YAY EXCITED FOR BLOOD RUSH & WOLF'S BANE :D

My Review:
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was well written, and very concise in it's wording. Three shipwrecked people survivng on an unknown island with only the hope of getting rescued. There was a sense of a common community, selfishness, selflessness, anger, hatred, love, a survival all in this book. I cannot go into too much details about this book without giving key points away. But, it was a good read, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys, and adventure type book.

(Courtesy of: Goodread.com)

My Review:
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars
As ever I just love the Argeneau Series, with it's humor, sexy men, quit witted women and some kind of disaster in each book, it makes each story a great read. Along with the ties to the previous characters. Each book has it's own story, that is basically the same ending for the most part, but each couple has their own story. Their own reasons for why they are meant to be. I always catch myself smiling or busting up out loud while I read one of these books, it never fails to amuse me.

This one Mortimer and Sam (I love the name by the way lol), meet at their cottages in Magnetawan also known as "cottage country" Mortimer, and his friends are supposed to be tracking down a Rogue Vampire, but end up meeting the sisters Sam, Jo, and Alex because Mortimer couldn't control Sam's mind. He's found his lifemate, he doesn't believe this to be the case because at first he thinks of her as a drunk and clumsy because she's always falling or hurting herself, but soon comes to find out it's an ear infection. But then he gets to know Sam more and the more he gets to know her the more his interests peeks to her, she obviously gets interested in him but has reserves cause of a past break up. Well of course some tragedy happens, this time it was her bosses goddaughter goes missing, so she ends up staying at her parents cottage (mansion) in the guest cottages out back. During this time, Mortimer and Sam get to know each other quite well, especially when they try to get intimate and it ends up resulting in some kind of a hysterical folly.

By the time this tragedy is taken care, things are quite sizzling between Mortimer and Sam, but Mortimer has yet to tell Sam about what he is and that she is his lifemate. By the time he does reveal it, it turns out bad at first, but then she comes to terms on what's she's been told. She is then left with choice of choosing Mortimer and leaving her sisters in like 10 years, or choosing her sisters and getting her memory of Mortimer erased completely. In the end the find the rogue, not going to tell you what happens to the rogue though *smiles*. And Mortimer and Sam are left with the choice, who does she choose? Well let's just say... you will be seeing more of Mortimer and Sam in future books. *smiles*

once again Sherrilyn Kenyon amazes me with her writing. I so loved this book, it had my rolling n laughter so many times, cause of Nick's smart mouth, man that boy is hilarious... then with him and Ash lawd help me those two are a riot. I don't want Kody hurting Nick, and Caleb, well it's hard to say how he's gonna end up cause he's working for Nick's father. Poor Nick he just can never get a break. Well I can't wait to read more the Nick's adventure's. He's always been one of my fav Dark Hunter characters.

My Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I think was a really good book, The concept was clear, the character were described in good details, hardly any errors made. I love how it intertwined Sci-fi with some fantasy in it.

This books starts out with a little bit of a prologue into the story, at first you're kind of like "Um what's going on?" but then you get into the actual story, where is starts out with a young man named Quade. He's on a planet, acquiring information on some of the uncharted "nexus's" which are basically tamed black holes, used for quicker space travel amongst the planets in the universe or multiple universes. He lives on the planet Bethel, he is in love with the Keystone's Daughter and future Keystone, named Trina. Who is a loving and caring woman, one who doesn't have a belly button. She cares for her people and makes sure they are well taken care of. Clea is Trina's best friend, Clea also has a friend named Avalon who is a muse and is only seen by Clea, and anyone he wishes them to see him, or is in need of a muse.

Quade also has been having weird dreams and has been hearing strange voices which makes him think he's going insane. Well come to find out he's not going insane it just two entities that work for the gods named Echo & mimic... they're quite funny I think. But they guide Quade through realizing he has a destiny, and guides him through it. Avalon is Clea's guide to her destiny which, she refuses to acknowledge. Quade is a chosen one, as well as Clea, I think Trina is another one, but not quite sure on that.

Clea is a well known smuggler so most of the book, she's out smuggling goods for a guy named Ryder. Possible enemy? or possible Lover? or possible aly? who knows.

They are chosen to fight the SanFear a formless creature made by the gods in their first attempt at creation. It goes and seeks what it can and sucks the energy out of everything on the planet, and caught in space.

Their destiny is too destroy this, Quade isn't sure he truly believes in his destiny until the Keystone is possessed by one of the SanFear. Then while Clea is still refusing her destiny, Quade is on a mission to find what he needs to rescue the Keystone, and his beloveds father. And Well Trina, she's basically clueless in all this.

At the end of the book, however it comes to where Clea can't get home, and Quade ends up getting the SanFear out of the Keystone, but is being hunted by the Keystones guard for attacking, the keystone. It basically cuts off with Trina sitting with her father, Quade gone no one knows where, and Clea stuck in space cause the planet has been shut down for travel due to the attack on the Keystone.

I hope more is answered in the next book, and I can't wait to see what unfolds next.

My review:
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book or books however it may be, well let me just say the concept was great. But it lacked a lot of detail and depth. I felt lost on a lot because there was no background and no detail on any of the characters really. And it just seemed rushed. I feel that if it had a lot more detail and didn't give me the rushed feeling this would've been a really good. However, it just left me feeling slightly empty, it was like bam this is going on, bam another thing is going on, and bam WOW the end... it definitely needs more detail like more background ,and just a deeper feel into the story line itself.

At first this book was a little on the confusing to "This is slightly dumb side", but then it started picking up more and I came to really enjoy this book. I'm a big fan of Christina Dodd so when I was at the "This is slightly dumb" stage I was a little upset. I like how this series takes place many years after the darkness chosen series, and how the Wilder's besides Alexandr was mention from time to time. Fortunately the book pick up and in the end I quite enjoyed it.

My Review:
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So I think my favorite story out of the entire book was "The Chosen" It seemed to have fit the Night World scene a whole lot better than the other two. "Dark Angel", it was good and I liked it, but it still kind of lacked what I got from the first Night World book on the whole Night World aspect of things. "The Chosen" was more involved with the Night World people I think that's why I liked it the best, and "Soulmates" it seemed a little cliche to me. The whole Soulmates, Old souls, destined to be together, but some unknown force is keeping them apart bit. But what really got me about "Soulmates" is all through that she decides to remain human.... all those years of him thinking it was his fault when really it wasn't, and she couldn't even give him forever with her, instead she wants to remain human get old and die, and start it all over again and again. To me I think that's a bit selfish, after over a thousands centuries of torment, and she can give him her humanity and become a vampire to live out forever with him in just one life. UGH! Young Women I swear sometimes. I also like how in each story you see a bit of old characters which kind of tie the entire series together. So I'm down to the last book in this series, wonder what's in store for me in that one?

My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ugh what it must feel like waking up in a cemetery, and having no recollection of how you got there. Then being told it's fall, and the last you remember it was spring. Well poor Nora that had happened to here. In the last book she was abducted by Hank and his men, the starting of Silence it is three months later, when Nora is released. But she can't remember anything past April, and it's driving her into madness. Coming home a lot of things have changed, her best friend is a man hater, her mom is dating the man she despises Hank Miller, even Marcie is being all nice to her. To Nora something just isn't right about all this. She wants to know who kidnapped her and she wants the memories she has lost to be recovered. One night she gets mad at Hank and walks out of the restaurant they were eating at, and ran into a few guys she had thought were just plain old thugs. Come to find out they weren't that they are fallen angels trying to get a Nephil to swear the "vow" to him. Then comes along Jev a stoic character who remains calm, and rescues Nora and the Nephil. Aferwards Nora keeps thinking of Jev, and keeps wondering things about him. Later on they meet again and this time he starts telling her everything, about how they are in love, and what Hank is really up to, at least as far as he knows. And much more.

It finally comes down to a decision, a decision Nora alone must make. Hank has put her into a position she really can't refuse. The decision is she either comes pure Nephil and run Hanks army after he dies or her and her mother dies. She chose the Pure Nephil part. In the end thins turned out as expected, except she doesn't want war, but some of the Nephil are going to want war, and eventually will get it. So here's to what the final book of the Series "Finale" holds.

My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cassandra Clare has done it again... she's made me salivate for the next book. This one it was a little rough to get into for the first few chapters or so. But once Clary finally broken away from her mom who by the way I think is highly "ANNOYING!" It got surprisingly better. I really enjoyed seeing Clary, with Jace and Sebastian without any interference it gave you a different perspective on things. Of course Sebastian is an megalomaniac to the extreme, I mean worse than Valentine ever dreamed of being. Jace well even though he wasn't the real Jace you at least got to see him relaxed and having fun. I loved seeing the carefree Jace and I hope to see a little more of him in the further books. I'm so sad though for Alec I loved him and Magnus together I also hope Isabelle gets off her high horse and tells Simon how she feels about him. But the story as a whole, well it's getting more and more interesting as it goes. I'm quite happy that Ms. Clare decided to keep going on with the series, there is just so much you can do with it. Now also with the mentioning's of a "Will Herondale" that I'm totally loving as well. Still a great series and I cannot wait for the next book to come out on both of her series.

Oh by the way the Jace on the cover of this book... is sooooo NOT what I picture Jace to look like... Clary yeah she's pretty close.
